Chuseok, often referred to as Korean Thanksgiving, stands as one of the most significant holidays celebrating the mid-autumn harvest. It is a time when families come together to share not just food but also stories, while paying respect and expressing gratitude to the harvest moon and their ancestors.
Central to this occasion is the Charye ritual, an ancestor memorial ceremony, in which Koreans bow twice to their ancestors hoping for a cozy winter ahead and a bountiful harvest in the upcoming year. This ceremony involves offering a selection of food, fruits, and beverages like soju to their ancestors. After the Charye ceremony, families gather around to relish the delicious food they've meticulously prepared, strengthening their bonds and reuniting with loved ones.
This year, Chuseok falls on Friday, September 29th, granting everyone a brief four-day break from Thursday, September 28th through Sunday, October 1st. People seize this opportunity to momentarily escape their bustling lives, returning home to cherish moments with family and friends. It is essential to note that transportation especially roads become packed as people journey back to their hometowns. Booking your travel tickets (buses, KTXs, and planes) well in advance is essential as last-minute plans might leave you going absolutely nowhere.
As Chuseok approaches, KimlyParc extends warm wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season for you and your loved ones!
